Uncharacteristic poor home form which has seen us drop 14 points has been put down to a lack of Plan B enabling us to crack open ultra-defensive sides. Perplexed fans and the media have continued to speculate as to why we are so one dimensional despite Scolari´s regular reasoning as to why alternatives haven’t been at his disposal - but now it looks as if Scolari will prove his point.
"I have now two weeks to work with the players and in that time I have time to train the second system or the third system."
"Before it is impossible. Before I had six, seven, eight players injured. Before I played Wednesday and Saturday and the players had international games. Now, this week, I train two times with different styles and tell my players: 'If the game is like this, I try putting this player here and train them for it.' Now I have time and no injuries and a good chance for me to start to play and change the systems."
So TWO different styles in training? Scolari has always said right from the beginning that he wants 2,3 or 4 different systems for us – I’d settle for one alternative for now and no doubt with key players back and the possibility of a new addition in January there’s time to work on other systems.
Scolari has said that he wanted a special wide player and more recently that has been modified (or at least added to) with that of a creative player – someone who can dribble. Certainly Joe Cole should fit into the latter category and it would be ironic after all these years of playing him out of position that Scolari opts to delve into the transfer market to achieve what he feels he has been missing in that respect. Joe Cole “in the hole” would be excellent in my opinion. An addition of a quality wide player to improve upon Malouda and Kalou – now that is worth scouring the market for.
"But in these six months I have learned something more about my job. About the systems, about the players, about the Premier League. It is different and it is fantastic. As a coach, this is the best time of my life." said Scolari.
"Yes there is more space for the full-backs away from home because when the opposition play at home they try to attack more, they try to play more. If they play a bad game, if they try only long balls, if they don't try to play, the fans will be shouting. In that time we have good quality and our quality goes up and we have more chance to win."

"If I think about the balance of points secured so far it's OK but twice I think that we are not ready — against Tottenham [1-1] and against Arsenal [1-2].
"After this I understand that sometimes we do not play very well and the opponents' team is good. But only these two games I am not happy with my team. The other games I have lost because the opposition play better but these two games it is impossible for me to accept."
"I will try my best with the players to pick not one, but two or three trophies this season. If we win two competitions I think it is fantastic. This I try to do for the club and the fans."
