Goals from Jacob Mellis, Fabio Borini, Jacopo Sala and skipper Daniel Philliskirk gave the Academy a 4-2 win at Charlton on Saturday morning.
After going a goal down after within six minutes, The Academy responded well and turned the game round to their advantage with four goals in 48 minutes, before Charlton pulled a very late consolation goal back.
Coach Paul Clement, who takes charge of the reserve team tonight in the wake of Brendan Rodgers departure to Watford said, "It was a slow start and for the first 15 minutes we weren't at the races.
"Charlton were getting close to us, pressing and we were making a lot of errors.
"At half-time we emphasised the importance of starting well which meant playing how we ended the first-half, not how we started it, and there was a really good response from the players.
"We continued to control the game, play some good football but at 4-1 made a few changes, lost concentration for a moment and they got a goal back.
"But is was a pleasing performance in the middle hour of the game and we are in good form with four wins and one draw in five league games.
"It gives us confidence going into the game on Thursday and it was a chance to have players together and work on a few things."
Chelsea: Niclas Heimann, Nikki Ahamed, Rohan Ince, Jeffrey Bruma (Billy-Joe King), Ben Gordon, Jacob Mellis (Josh McEachran), Gael Kakuta, Daniel Philliskirk (c), Jacopo Sala (Billy Knott), Fabio Borini, Frank Nouble.
Don't forget there will be LIVE coverage on the message board of The Academy's trip to Old Trafford in Thursday's FA Youth Cup-tie versus Man Utd.
Another one for Borini! His goals per game must be excellent at the moment?!
Sad news about Brendan leaving although he goes with the clubs best wishes (and rather than stand in his way they helped the move).
Brendan´s post is going to be filled internally I understand. Who will it be do you reckon?
