Malouda Celebrates

This last time last season Chelsea were held at home by Rosenborg, the game that ultimately cost 'The Special One his job. Last night at the Bridge top Champions League seeds Chelsea (No.1, numero uno) demolished Bordeaux 4-0. Goals from Super Frank, Joey, Florent Malouda and a last second strike for Nicolas Anelka (who fully deserved his goal) crowned an 'easy' night for the Blues.

Bordeaux who are coached by Laurent Blanc, a former Champions League winner and World Cup winner and by his stature in the football world, is no mug.

But Chelsea made mugs of Bordeaux.

Chelsea controlled the game from start to finish and were two goals up inside half hour. The first from a Frank Lampard header from a wonderful cross from Bosingwa who was attacking down the right at will and then on thirty minutes Joe Cole, despite his bad head, scored with a deft flick header from a Super Frank corner.

The only 'job' that Blanc and his coaching team got right... was to turn us around before kick-off, just like bottom of the table Tottingham did to us a couple of weeks ago.

This meant Chelsea had to attack the Matthew Harding Stand in the first-half. Tonight made no difference. Two goals in the first-half and two goals in the second.

It wasn't until seven minutes from the end of the 2nd half that Chelsea really did stamp their authority on the game. Malouda got Chelsea's third after a neat back-flick from Super Frank and the last was the best of the game even though Anelka had a simple tap-in.

From fully thirty yards (or more), Belletti a late Chelsea sub, hit a shot that swerved and dipped all the way, credit to the goalkeeper Rame who made a wonderful save to tip the shot onto the bar, but the ball dropped down and Anelka had the simple chance to tap the ball in the net.

Anelka was deserving of the goal, for his off the ball running, for his positional play and for his near efforts on goal when he got the chances.

A minute or so before his goal, he had a shot that just hit the outside of the post from 20 odd yards and earlier than that from an unmarked header, Ricky hit the bar.

The headlines this morning all centred about Big Phil complaining - I thought the complaints would be about the atmosphere, which was apathetic and pathetic - but the complaints weren't, the complaints were all about the performance. 4-0 and Phil still wasn't happy!!

Back to the atmosphere. It seems to me that Mr A and the board cannot do anymore than they have to 'create' an atmosphere at Stamford Bridge when 'lesser' known teams visit - no disrespect to Bordeaux - their atmosphere when we visit France for the return game, will batter us and put us to shame.

No problems regarding the attendance - Chelsea sold out. Chelsea tried free scarves instead of flags to create an atmosphere (30,000 in fact). All I saw was scarves wrapped round necks.

You just watch the difference on Sunday, people will be paying top dollar unlike last night (£25 top price with concessions) and the Bridge will be 'rocking' (hopefully he says keeping fingers tightly crossed!!)

In general, another excellent performance.

During the 2nd half Bordeaux went through a period of being more organised and more difficult to break down - that said they didn´t have a sniff at goal.

Excellent goal from Malouda and good performances from Lampard, Anelka and Mikel.

So far so good!

Now for the Mancs on Sunday...

just a point concerning the atmosphere. Part of the blame has to go to the stewards. I sat in the MHL and was told constantly to sit down. I can understand compulsary seating on the sides but most people buy tickets behind the goal go there to cheer the team on. People dont sing when they are sitting down.

The stewards in the MHL are right jobworths... We have the same row wiv 'em every week lol.

There is one steward who thinks he is rite hard..... if someone went after him he would run a mile LOL

..and talking of atmosphere did anybody here that Stoke lot outsinging the scousers at Anfield?

Apart from them singing it seemed very quiet.
