Geremi Stunner Lifts Champions

I had been running a poll on the site asking the question - Who is Your Right-Back Preference? Ferreira, Boulahrouz or Geremi. Geremi has proved the popular vote by winning 75% of the vote.

Yesterday at Stamford Bridge, Geremi proved the voters right by scoring a stunning free-kick which ultimately won the game for the Champions. Geremi has this reputation of scoring from free-kicks and I wonder if Didier and Frank will take a look at themselves and ask 'who is this kid on my block?' LOL

The free-kick came about after Danny Gabbidon tussled with the in-form Didier Drogba and although Gabbidon was shown the yellow card a further few feet forward could have seen ref Mike Dean produce the red.

Up stepped Geremi and flighted a perfect strike into the left-hand side of Robert Green's net. I was told on my return from the game that Matt Le Tissier on Sky's Soccer Saturday said that at the line-up of the free-kick Drogba and Lampard were looking to take it and although Geremi was in and around the area of the ball, he couldn't possibly be allowed to take responsibility - well you know what happened next!

By scoring first Chelsea continued their record of scoring first in every Premiership game this season.

Michael Ballack was rested from the squad. With four bookings to his name and the game against Man Utd on the horizon it is possible that Jose couldn't take the risk of playing him. With Werder Bremen coming up in midweek a rest may do Ballack the world of good.

With the exception of the last ten mimutes, Chelsea were in complete control. Essien hit the post from twenty-five yards, Didier had a goal disallowed and JT sent a couple of headers just over the bar. West Ham's Robert Green made a smart stop to deny the ever improving Arjen Robben.
