Ex-Chelsea legends Kerry Dixon and Paul Canoville played for both clubs. Paul became the first black player to wear the Blue of Chelsea and ended up at Reading' former home of Elm Park at the tail-end of the career.

Whereas Kerry found his boots at Reading where he scored 51 League goals in 116 League appearances after serving his 'apprenticeship' at non-league Chesham United and Dunstable Town.

In August 1983 Kerry signed for Chelsea for £175,000 (which included England appearance bonuses) and on his Chelsea debut against Derby County he scored twice in a 5-0 win. I know, because I was there. That season he scored 35 goals in total and at the end of his Chelsea career, became the club's 2nd highest goalscorer behind Bobby Tambling with 193 goals from 420 games.

And if you are old enough to remember, Kerry scored Chelsea's first top flight goal at Highbury after promotion from the 'old' 2nd Division where the late great Brian Moore was commentator. 'Dixon, Dixon again... Its a goal Kerry Dixon...... and Dixon has equalised.' Kerry had equalised in front of Arsenal's Old Clock End where there were thousands upon thousands of Chelsea fans in a game that ended 1-1. And I was there too and somewhere I have that goal on tape with those famous Brian Moore words.

Today Kerry works for Chelsea as contributor to the home matchday programme and co-commentates on Smooth FM in London and does analysis on Chelsea TV when the Reserves are in action.
