For fifteen minutes into the start of the second-half, Chelsea's 1-0 lead was looking extremely fragile as Bremen attacking the 3,000 hordes of Green and White, first had a header by World Cup top scorer Klose that went over the bar and then Klose went even closer as his next header hit the bar with Cech stranded.

A few minutes later Drogba was bundled off the ball in the Bremen penalty area, Ballack despatched it and it was game over. After the 2nd goal went in, the stuffing was knocked out of the Bremen attack.

Chelsea were not that purposeful to be honest, but for that fifteen minutes, Chelsea did enough to confirm their status as second favourites to win the competition.

Bremen did enough to suggest that they will give Barcelona problems home and away and Chelsea can 'celebrate' the fact that they have one over their Catalans rivals in getting the victory this evening.

Chelsea's first half goal came from a set of intricate passing movement which ended in Essien finishing off the chance after Bremen's Pasanen slipped whilst trying to control the ball and the ball ran free to Essien.

Even then and up to Chelsea's 2nd goal from the penalty spot, their really wasn't to much fluency about their play. With Ashley Cole making his full debut and Khalid Boulahrouz starting his first European game, width was an issue and it was width that Chelsea didn't have.

Cole struggled to get forward and I think throughout the whole game, he only managed to put in one decent cross in the second-half and from that cross 'The Dids' was unlucky with the volley that followed it and zipped just past Reinke's left hand post.

For the purists in the 32,000 plus crowd this performance wasn't vintage Chelsea but then again a result was gained and the right result is what it's all about.

I have to say Werder Bremen shamed the home fans in their support. They outsung the Matthew Harding Stand all night and considering the Matthew Harding Stand was half-full that is no surprise and Chelsea FC you have to look at yourselves and seriously consider reducing prices for those 'less-attractive' home Champions League game.

If the attendance this evening was 32,000 what is the crowd going to be for the Levski home game later in the calendar??

If Chelsea's qualification for the last 16 is secure before the Levski home game, how much are you going to charge then? This game would be a worthwhile exercise to reduce prices!!
