Chelsea lost in Chicago last night in the sold out 21,000 capacity Toyota Park to the All-Stars of the MLS. Defeat aside - Joe Cole who came on as a second half substitute - lasted only five minutes and after damaging knee ligaments could be out of action for a number of weeks.
Mourinho kept his promise and gave everyone in the squad a game, making six changes for the start of the second half and a seventh for the unfortunate Joe Cole and an eighth for Hilario replacing Cudicini. Ballack produced a wonderful through ball for Drogba to run on and score mid-way through the first half but the goal was ruled out for offside. The 'Shev' had only one tame effort on target which was easily snapped up by the All-Stars 'keeper, Perkins. Salamon Kalou looks an interesting signing. Within seconds of his introduction he caused panic the the All-Stars defence which nearly produced an own goal, but the ball was cleared right on the line. Kalou had other chances and steadier finishing might have produced deserved reward. The All-Stars goal came on sixty-nine minutes. From a quickly taken throw in, De Rosario allowed the ball to bounce before hitting a twenty yard volley past the despairing dive of Hilario at his left hand post. Chelsea went hard in search of an equaliser. Robben had a header fly just wide, JT had two efforts blocked by 'keeper and right at the end the 'keepr saved superbly from a close range Carvalho effort. The team flew straight back home after the game to get ready for Monday's Blue Day Out at Stamford Bridge. Following that Chelsea are away at Feyenoord on Tuesday before taking on the Scottish Champions Celtic, at The Bridge on Wednesday. Both games will have LIVE scores and updates on the message board.
