Within twelve minutes last Sunday, Chelsea were 2-0 down. The Blues fought back to 2-2, had two players sent off and lost to an offside goal. On Wednesday the equality of the two sides lasted until the 21st minute when after a typical Chelsea calamity Giggs, the serial womaniser that no-one is interested in, put Utd one up.

Utd with only one recognised defender in their back four (I doubt Utd fans know too much about their defence on the night except Rafael who played in Sunday’s encounter,) conceded a penalty when Buttner bundled over Moses and David Luiz, who lost the plot and the ball when Utd scored their second from ‘cheeky’ Chico, summarily despatched the equaliser.

From an early second-half Mata corner, Gary Cahill rose the highest to equalise for the Blues for the second time and it took the assistant referee’s flag to confirm the ball had crossed the line, despite Rafael’s protests.

Utd took the lead again, with a goal of their own making as Nani chipped over the diving Cech, following a neat interchange of passes including Utd’s potential MOM in Anderson at the edge of the Blues area.

Prior to Chelsea’s equaliser deep, deep, deep into injury time, Chelsea were denied a stonewall penalty when Keane with his arm flapping about handled a Mata cross, but Lee Mason chose to ignore the claims.

When Wootton bundled over Ramires in the area as the seconds ticked away, Mason pointed to the spot and Hazard stepped up to calmly slot the ball past Lindegaard to send the game into extra-time.

With two ninety-minute games played between the two teams within four days, eleven goals had been scored with more to come.

All out attack, sod the defence and a couple of ‘dodgy’ referee decisions.

Chelsea took the lead in the first-half of extra-time when Utd repaid their hosts hospitality as young Utd defender Wootton tried to make a headed clearance but the ball fell to Danny Sturridge, who really didn’t take advantage of his position in Torres’ absence throughout the night, to control the ball and round Lindegaard to put Chelsea in front.

Chelsea went 5-3 up when Ramires, always deserving of a goal every time he plays, finished off a Chelsea counter-attack as Utd strove for an equaliser.

Right on the whistle at the end of extra-time, Cesar (aka Dave) bundled Cheeky Chico in the area and Lee Mason had no option but to point to the spot, just like he did in the first-half (consistency.)

Up stepped the womaniser to score Utd’s fourth. Once Chelsea kicked-off for the sixth time in the game, Mason blew for full-time, straight after Chelsea discovered they had been drawn away against Leeds United in the quarter-finals, a game to be played on Wednesday 19^th December 2012.

On Sunday, Ivanovic was sent off for a ‘tangled leg’ assault on serial diver Young, a decision that hair-gelled z-list celebrity Clutterbuck, a ref without a game this weekend couldn’t wait to get his red card out quick enough, whereas Mason only booked Utd’s young defender Keane when he dragged down Danny Sturridge clear on goal.
