Chelsea Football Club announced this afternoon that the transfer of Oriol Romeu Vidal from Barcelona has been completed and the 19 year old midfielder/central defender will join the ranks at Cobham, once he has returned from Spain's U20's World Cup competition, currently on going in Colombia.
So don't get too excited. Chances of Oriol making an appearance in the Chelsea Blue might not happen this side of Christmas (heheheh... Ed).
The youngster has signed a four-year deal and Chelsea reported that the terms of Oriol's transfer were agreed whilst Chelsea were in Bangkok.
Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois became the first signing of the Summer when joining from Belguim side Genk and then was summarily sent out on loan for the season to Atletico Madrid.
Goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon believes being at Atletico will be of benefit to the 19 year old.
Lollichon said, "I have followed him for the last year and a half, and for me he is a big talent in Europe.
"A lot of clubs wanted him but we had a very good relationship after the first meeting between his parents and the club, and after that he had to choose.
"I think the best way might be to stay on loan for two years and after that, he can come to England and discover the English football for another year at a Premier League club. That is very important because the Premier League is a very special environment for a goalkeeper, and then he could join us to continue to loan."
