City 1 Chelsea 0: Solid City fend off Chelsea

First loss of the Season. The difference in this game was principally made by Man City ´s hugely resistant defence, terrier-like closing down in midfield and (it has to be said) an excellent finish from Tevez.

Not a lot of goal-mouth action but the football was of a high quality.  Like a lot of top games, large passages of play were chess-like with each move blocked and countered.

We enjoyed more possession but possession means little when the cutting edge is missing – goals win matches not pass rates, although there was an excellent shout for a penalty in the first half when Drogba was blatantly blocked but the referee inexplicably decided to let it go.

Drogba at City

Zhirkov was brought on to try and increase the drive forward and later, a slightly below par Drogba was surprisingly substituted for Sturridge.  The prodding and probing in and around the City goal-mouth increased but the home side’s defence remained resolute.

Ramires is still acclimatising to Premier League pace and got caught in possession too often during the first half but in general, I don’t think I could single anybody else out on either side that had a bad game.

Man City certainly seemed to have improved a few notches this season and it remains to be seen who they will displace (and I think they will) from the coveted Champion´s League positions.

So….test failed?  I don’t think so.  There’s still so much of the season left and if anything, this result will only serve to spur us on to win the next few.

Money Citeh deserved it because they hunted us down - two/three around everytime we got the ball

We kept Tevez quiet until Ramires' mistake and at that point Anco should have taken him off and brought on Josh - much earlier than he did - the boy shows no fear and just wants to play football.

I agree bringing Drogba off was a surprise for Sturridge after all Sturridge didnt cover himself in glory against Newcastle.

Is Money Citeh becoming our 'bogey' team?
