Michael Essien has been taken to hospital after injuring his knee whilst training with Ghana in preparation for their African Cup of Nations clash with Burkino Faso on Tuesday. Essien hasn't played in the competition yet as a hamstring injury prevented him playing in Ghana's 3-1 defeat against the Ivory Coast last Friday.
Ghana's coach Milovan Rajevac said, "I don't know the extent of the injury but we will find out later."
Bruce Buck has spoken about the Joe Cole situation that he will sign for Money Citeh in the Summer on a free transfer. Chelsea just cannot let him leave after he was instrumental in Chelsea's superb 7-2 thrashing of Sunderland at The Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
Joe is on his way back to his best and Boss 'Anco' has highlighted that it is imperative that Coley stays at The Bridge.
Buck said, "I am personally a big fan of Joe Cole and we are in discussions with his agent and hopefully that will be sorted out soon."
In almost a confirmation that Chelsea will not sign anybody during this transfer window Buck said, "With regards to January, we asked for the transfer ban to be suspended as an option because several months ago we didn't know if we were going to have any injuries or great opportunities for us to buy a player.
"We have only used the January transfer window a couple of times. You don't buy players just to buy players, you buy them to fill the need or because they are a better player than the one we have in a particular situation.
"A player really has to suit us for us to buy him, and then, even if a player is available, he has to be available at the right price."
Very very worrying news re Essien - it sounds serious. When will we know for how long will he be out?
We must keep Cole of course - he´s Chelsea through and through and when he gets fully fit and playing regularly will hit his peak during the next two seasons.
Buck´s comments re the transfer ban make sense but I suspect he must know that the ban will be overturned - the cub appear very confident. Time will tell obviously.
