COME ON CHELSEA

I know this sounds dramatic and Abba-esque from some Greek Island, but Chelsea won a competitive penalty shoot-out for the first time in eleven years. We JUST don't win shoot-out competitons. After all the previous failings in spot-kick competitions, Chelsea prevailed at Wembley yesterday 4-1, bringing the Community Shield back to Stamford Bridge.

It could be said had Ballack's block on Evra been given as a foul or ref Chris Foy pulled back play, JTs thumping up field clearance to Didier who then passed to Super Frank who gave Chelsea a 2-1 lead, wouldn't have happened and Wayne Rooney's very late strike could have proved to be the winner for the Reds.

But it didn't and Chelsea went on to win with a set of penalties never seen before in recent history.

Nani scored inside ten minutes with a low shot from the edge of the area, against the run of play, but the goal gave Utd the impetus and they could have had a couple of more before half-time.

'Anco' made a change at half-time bringing Bosingwa on for Ivanovic and within minutes of the 2nd half starting, Ricky equalised for the Blues with a diving header, after Didier caused Foster problems with his towering presence.

'Anco' was pleased with securing his first trophy in his first game.

He said, "I am very happy for sure, it was an important match, a very difficult match because the first half Manchester United played very well and made a strong start to the game. We found it difficult but were better in the second half, with more strength on the pitch, and we deserved to win.

"Its an important start to the season, we have to improve because we changed a bit and we have to work, but we can relax. I am very happy, and I know very well the players and I like the organisation of the club, we are ready to start a very important season and want to do our best."

SAF said, "It won't do them any harm. I said before the game and it applies because they are a very experienced team operating a new system, which we should have put to bed in the first half.

"We're disappointed in losing the game. The equaliser knocked us back and at that point Chelsea were the better team. Once Chelsea were in front they couldn't lose the game, and I thought their penalty kicks were far better than ours."

What a nice change to actually WIN a pen shoot-out!

Pleased with the way we played after the first 20 mins or so... It was hot so both sides were somewhere inbetween training and match mode - although the sparks between us helped put more life into the match.

It was a block by Ballack BUT the ref played advantage and a few passes later they lost the ball.... Rooney also looked offside for their equaliser I thought.

So far so good for Ancelotti.

That was one of the previous SEVEN pen shoot-outs we had lost prior to Sunday. The Dagenham Girl Pipers would have probably beat us at pens when you played us.
