CHELSEA: Rival fan hypocrisy over our "plastic" flags!
By dixon9
April 16 2009
We do come in for some stick for those flags that the club lays out for the fans before a big game don’t we? After having the temerity to qualify for the semi-finals of the Champions League over media darlings Liverpool, we’ve come in for yet more stick. Any crumb that bitter scousers or other rival fans can greatfully mop up is used against us it seems.
Newspaper blogs and football forums are full of vitriol from frothing at the mouth rivals and even Clive Tyldesley apparently made a snidey comment about them whilst commentating during Tuesday night´s match (I wonder what he thought of the morgue-like silence from the Kop during last weeks self-proclaimed “Special European night” (Pass the sick bucket! Ed) match at Anfield whilst Chelsea fans sung “Where’s your atmosphere?!”?)
.
Vinegary frustration
Such is the frustration from our self-combusting rivals that the flags have been brought up as if it’s the first time they’ve seen them! – even though we went through all this criticism a few seasons ago!“Plastic flags for plastic fans!” “Oh look!Chelsea need help to create an atmosphere!” etc
Well, firstly they are not plastic and secondly (this might come as a surprise) flags can’t sing.
.
The iissstoreeeee!
.
Of course, part of the reason these notorious flags were first bought in was due to a Kenyon ruling on restrictions on the size and type of flags that Chelsea fans used to bring in (danger of covering advertising hoardings, inflammable material etc).In any case, we’ve always had plenty of home-made banners and flags in the past – a past which boasts the 5th highest average attendance in English league history.
Now I must admit, I was a bit aghast at the flags when they first appeared but I must confess (and slightly ashamed to say!) that I now think they actually look quite good!In fact, I think this flag thing started on the continent years ago - Abramovich wants to capture a bit of that look it would seem.
Stunning hypocrisy
.
But anyway, back to our sud-faced critics…
Why is it, that when Villa or Spurs have recently had their club-gifted flags the media and football fans have been mute?
Why is it that for years before Chelsea had clubs flags dished out to supporters, the likes of Barcelona, Lazio, Fenerbahçe, River Plate and many others were doing it and not a dicky bird of whining and self-righteousness from rival fans or the media was heard?
The answer is obvious – just another stick to beat “The enemy of football” Chelsea with.Maybe we should just cross our arms and smile smugly at them?
In the meantime, sorry to spoil a bit of good old Chelsea hating for all you sheep-like bandwagoners, but take a look at the following – and if you have any dignity, let’s see you slating this lot as well (But you won’t will you?! – and we know and you know why don’t you?!) Stew away!:
"It is born out of hypocrisy and fundamental insecurity. There have been two kids on the block for the past 12 years. Suddenly, there is a third and that one is threatening to be more successful than the others and they don’t like it." P Kenyon.
Actualy i don't even know why did you bother. Liverpool are just a bunch of sore loosers. Or maybe they just envy us 'cos the Liverpool administration can't afford to give something back to their fans (besides 20 year old glories). I mean most of my friends are L'pool fans and they were going on for weeks how they gonna trash us out of the CL but at the end of it we came up stronger than them and when they couldn't complain about an unfair ref or somebody diving or harsh tackles they try to save face by dising our flags. Pathetic.

We've got the same restrictions as well.
Not having a pop at you (am at the yids though , self proclaimed best support - w*nkers) but if fans really want to create an atmosphere they dont need plastic flags.
Look like a joke IMO. And I'm surprised our board haven't tried to shove them down our throats.
Love the flags, the kids love the flags, everybody at Chelsea loves the flags and i don't give a flying f*ck what anybody else thinks.Chelsea football club giving something back to the supporters nothing wrong with that. The rest are just jealous because their club don't do the same.Didn't see one flag or scarf at the Hemmyrats did you.

tyldesley said "Chelsea given flags to lend to the atmosphere, they [Liverpool] don't need flags, they bring themselves.
when he said 'they' the camera was on Liverpool fans, so it's a safe assumption.
it @#$%& me off at the time and still does,
did anyone watch the man utd everton game?
it took a mere 8 seconds into the game before the red scousers were mentioned, they were mentioned atleast another 20 times during the 120 minutes, and only once related to hillsborough... chelsea already finalists mentioned 4 times...
Tyldesley is extremely pro-Liverpool and pro-Man Utd. Sky/Setenata and the media in general know that these make up a huge chunk of their customers and until our fan base grows and more people indicate that they support Chelsea we will continue to get hammered.

At last the club giving something back to the supporters.I don't give a dammed what people say about the flags, the kids love em and that's what really matters.
Since 66 Well PK. You wont have to worry. I remember you saying you can't get tickets for home games- cos you are a lowly member
I can get tickets for most home games mate. For every league game at home 1500 tickets go to us 'lowly' members but they're gone really quick especially for big games. For smaller games its no problem at all. Its semi's and finals I've got no chance for. For big away games, like Anfield or Old Trafford, I've got no chance with my membership. Just pick up spares from people selling, at face value obviously
So I can get tickets for home games, its just that I wont. There's no point paying rip off prices when you cant stand, sing or swear.
Ashburton Grove, a blinding stadium but infested mostly with daytrippers and tourists.
Aways on the other hand

And then:
PK: We're going to be having these cringing flags against the Mancs next week Ive heard
Talk about bad timing eh PK?!

Does waving a flag increase your supporters vocal power? I think not. Based on the above you are trying to justify the flags just because other clubs have done the same in the past? Pathetic.
Adds to the atmosphere? It give a false atmosphere. Fakeness. Like everything else at chelsea you think can be bought.
You say the club is giving something back to the supporters? Rubbish. For £47+ a ticket your happy with a factory made flag to wave about? pfft. Are you happy this kind of corporate meddling at your football club?
You say you’ve had plenty of home-made banners and flags in the past? where are they now? A st georges cross with c
Chelsea written across the middle is a poor attempt at best.
As Clive Tyldesley said "Chelsea given flags to lend to the atmosphere, liverpool fans don't need flags, they bring themselves."
To right Tyldesley.
Come back to me the day we have poundland factory-made flags being waved round at Anfield and we're booing our team off at half time.

Did you see the Flags at Newcastle loads of Geordie's waving their giant bar codes it was brill. They are all at it,the scousers are next i cant wait because their atmosphere has been sh*t lately and they need the flags and they know it.That's if they can afford them.

One of the worst atmosphere's I've seen all season was at Anfield.
Other than the 'You'll never Walk alone' theatrics and the occassional 'Liverpool Liverpool' chants they didn't really come out with much.
There lot sitting right next to us took stick all game without even looking our way, most passive home fans I've seen this season. Sat there, dead quiet.

Your dead right mate take the anthem away and their shhhit.
No doubt the flags are laid out to get the fans involved, but why can't the fans bring their own flags and scarves. Look at Celtic, they have the plastic flags sometimes as well , but nearly all the supporters bring their own scarves, and create their own Atmosphere. I'm a Liverpool fan, and have to admit our atmosphere has took a real hit since The Yanks ripped the soul out of our club. But just watch us next season, now that Kenny is back.
International flags are going to be the same aren't they you little idiot. And Arsenals flags were from a significant game. Liverpool have scarves not mass produced flags. Chelsea are all @#$%& and I hate you all.
