Chelsea 1-0 Juventus: Gold Not Black and White?

COME ON CHELSEA

Why oh why did Juve play in Gold? Were they trying to tell us something? How the hell does Black and White clash with Royal Blue? I don't know the answer, but surely every Chelsea fan that turned up at Stamford Bridge last night was disappointed that the 'old girl' wasn't in her sexy Black and White refinery.

Black and White is Juve. Juve IS 'the big squares on the back so the numbers show up on the striped shirt.' Even the Juve fans were in black and white and also wearing very very sexy shiny ski-jackets to-boot!!

Apart from the above misdemeanour, last night at The Bridge wasn't a bad night after all, except for the second-half to a degree. The journey up to Stamford Bridge was a bit long-winded, but being rush hour what would you expect, meeting up with Since88 went smoothly, cashpoint raided, split scarf purchased.

I then discovered that the latest edition of the fanzine went on sale against Watford in the FA Cup... oops my bad, so that means the new edition will be out this Saturday against Wigan (gotta raid the jar.... again).

Into a new area of the Bridge for me, since the Shed End became a stand full of seats. We always go in the Upper where we can, but last night took me into new territory.

I have never ever ever been in the Lower tier of the Shed. Simply put, why would I want to go in there? The view looks pants, only if Chelsea are attacking the Matthew Harding End, so when I had to choose seats (because of having to be relocated) I thought Shed End Lower as near to the back as possible as the Shed Upper wasn't available and there was no way was I going in either the East or West Stands.

Passed info to Since88 the day I got the tickets and he pointed out that because of the Shed Upper and a 'lip' that the design of the stand creates, seats at the back wasn't a good idea.

Well he changed his mind once Dids 12th minute slammed into the back of the net and Nedved's last second blaster that went wide to 'our' side of the post.

Yep! The kit change miffed me a bit as well. I can only assume that this is another example of commercialisation where the club want to give a 3rd kit more air time (I wonder if we will play in blue in the return leg?).

Great opening 20 mins and Drogba seems to be getting back to his normal self.

Surprised it was Kalou who made that defence splitting pass for the goal and it was lucky that Lampard never touched the ball otherwise Drogba´s goal would have been ruled offside.

We let them back into it in the 2nd half although they weren´t that dangerous with chances.

Lots of disgruntlement about fitness. I´m not so sure fitness is that much lower (Hiddink does admit so but he doesn´t go as far to say it is THAT low).

My impression is that the team are under instructions to drop deeper once weve scored and try and draw them out more. We are almost playing under the Mourinho blueprint - with Carvalho back and Essien bombing through the middle the picture would be complete.

Good result though.

Oh! And how could I forget!

A proud moment when Mancienne, been with us since 8 years of age, came onto the field last night.

Chelsea are getting better but better do less as I am expecting a lot from the current chelsea side!As for as I am concerned they still luck a bit of organization as a team though and I do hope this quality i.e organization will be mantained with a bit of time with the new manager!Chelsea should always play like the way the played for the first 20 mins with Juventus in order to lay a claim for the remaining at least two trophies!come on chelsea you can do it!

Well Carvalho will be back which will make us more assured in defence and I´m sure Hiddink will instruct the team to push up more.

I actually think we will perform better there than we did last night.

(and maybe even Essien may get some minutes - might be too early for him still though?)

Yeah I wouldn't rush him back.

Mikel has been ok holding the center mid spot but Essien gives you that added offensive drive.

Like stated earlier, we need to keep that momentum up for the whole game. I want to see stoch in for Anelka at some point. He was just floating out there during the second half.

...and Mancienne may well get a chance at right-back tomorrow seeing as Bosingwa is suspended.

Apparently, Juventus chose their black and white strip when the club was founded in homage to that great English team of the time...Notts County!

How times change!

I was reading up on that last night.

Apparently they origonally played in pink shirts but the colour faded too easily so they askd an English bloke involved with the club for suggestions for a different shirts. He rang his mate in Nottingham who sent over some Notts County shirts (as he was a fan), Juventus liked th shirts so much .....and the rest is history.
