There has been a lot of speculation that Salomon Kalou's 'cross-armed' goal celebration against Middlesbrough during the week was a soliditary signal to fellow Ivory Coast countryman and politicial activist Assale Tiemoko Antoine who was recently released from prison.There are two different published reasons what the 'cross-armed' signal means.

The first reason given is a thank you to rapper Akon who presented Kalou with a commemorative disc at a gig earlier on in the week and Kalou was copying the design of the logo which is part of the rapper's Konvict Music record label.

Kalou said, "I don't even know of this guy Antoine. Why should I celebrate for him?"

For the second reason and more in depth, Kalou said, "People will think there is something in everything you do but the way I celebrated didn't mean anything.

"It wasn't for anyone. It didn't mean anything. I was just happy. I don't even know the guy. That has nothing to do with football. Why should I celebrate for him?

"It was crossed arms, not wrists. It was about my strength."

There can be no doubt whatsoever what inspired Kalou to take-on the 'waving the hand across the face' celebration.

Kalou says, "It means that you can't see me," and then he added, "I suppose I am saying it to the defenders on the other team."

Kalou inspiration for the celebration comes from WWE Superstar John Cena.

Kalou says, "I watch wrestling and I am a big fan of John Cena. He does the same thing with his hand in front of his face when he comes out to fight."

my son loves the wrestling thing il ask him lol...an maybe i best ask him bout the akon thing....ur a bit with it for a 66 man lol....akons stuff is quite gd to b honest!!!!!

The Akon bit I got out of the paper and the WWE for me isnt the same since The Rock left to go into movies.

Shame in a way really. I was hoping the celebration WAS for Ivory Coast activist Antoine Assale Tiemoko, jailed for his column on judicial corruption and that the wrestling thing was a ruse to avoid FA charges!
