Salomon Kalou's first goal was clear cut and extremely visible. Super Frank sent over a corner, there was a knock down from Alex, 'Boro failed to clear and Kalou volleyed home from just outside the six yard box to help erade the jitters from the home fans. At half-time Chelsea were booed off for a performance as dismal as the rain was wet and soaking into those unprotected areas.

Kalou's second goal of the night wasn't as visible.

Some bright spark decided to send his or hers perimeter security squad out into position whilst Super Frank was lining up to take another corner, this time over the other side of the Stamford Bridge park.

My eyeline was obscured by the masses of Orange jackets lining up into position. Although I was standing up (naughty, naughty) my view was still obscured and all I saw was the ball in the air and then I was jumping about celebrating as the ball went into the net.

The stadium announcer proclaimed that Kalou had scored his second goal of the night and after viewing TV replays, 'Boro's 'keeper Ross Turnbull, completely missed the flight of the ball and Kalou headed a free header home from close range.

One bright ray of sunshine on a very dismal and wet evening was the arrival of the 'new' Didier Drogba as a half-time substitute.

During his warm-up down my end of The Bridge, Drogba indicated his commitment to Chelsea by holding the badge on his shirt and crossing it many, many times which sent the fans into raptures.

There are fractions of Chelsea's support that would like to see the back of Mr D (including myself) but after his 2nd half hustle and bustle performance last night, it appears that Mr D is on his way back to being the feared striker he was two years ago.

If Mr D gets a chance against Liverpool on Sunday and he plays like he did last night, Liverpool's defence will be in for a torrid time and he could very well win back the love of the Chelsea faithful.

In his programme notes, Scolari said, "Busy period will give Youth a chance to prove their worth."

Scolari didn't give young Miroslav Stoch that much of a chance - bringing him on with less than two minutes left - what is Stoch going to do?

The game was won with ten minutes to go and what makes the situation even worse is that Florent Malouda is the worse player ever to wear the Blue shirt, since the days of Graham Wilkins and Scolari still picks him!!!

Admittedly the performance didn´t seem great but...

How much possession did we have?
How often did Boro get into our half?
We scored two.

Against sides that just wont be drawn out, that keep 10 men behind the ball almost constantly and in the final third there just isn´t much you can do. More width? Yes...but we don´t have convincing resources on thw wings.

Kalou could be such a fantastic player but he is so frustrating.

Interesting and good news your comments on Drogba.

You know...I would say sod it and go for a front 3 of (assuming that Scolari wont start with a true 4-4-2):

Kalou---------Drogba---------Stoch

Malouda should be taken out the equation, that leaves Anelka, Drogba, Kalou and Stoch. Drogba will be champing at the bit and much more of a worry to the Liverpool defence than Anelka. Anelka doesn´t do much out wide so put Kalou on the left and tell him to run at the defence. That leaves Stoch for the right side. Big game for a kid? Sure - but the current format ISNT working and he is confident.

I got slated for suggesting this (on another site) but I´d take the bull by the horns - and give Stochie boy a chance.

I dont think it was a case of putting many men behind the ball and go for the point.

'Boro to their credit did try and play and with Downing on the left - nullified Bosingwa's attacking intent - as Since 88 said to me after the game, Downing's pace worried Bossie.

It is a case of not having the width and with 'Boro packing their midfield at every available opportunity, we struggled to break them down.

Scoring from two set pieces was a relief - at least we didn't concede from any.

Our third home league win on the trot, with only one goal conceded.

The thing is, with a box that is so so packed out with defenders set pieces are going to be some of the best opportunities to score.

Re sunday:

Malouda may have a knock now - that could leave us with Kalou, Anelka, Drogba and Stoch for Anfield. Scolari would have to go 4-4-2 OR....play Anelka out wide if he doesnt think Stoch is ready.

the article the other day was about the lack of goals at the MH end.

Yesterday we scored TWICE at the MH end for the first in time in the League since November against Sunderland

Hope that clears that up for you
