Sinclair in Temporary Birmingham Loan

SCOTT SINCLAIR

Scott Sinclair has been loaned “temporarily” today to Birmingham City until 3rd February. McLeish’s side are currently 3rd in the Championship, level on points with 2nd placed Reading so Sinclair should experience football that will be both pressured and competitive.

Sinclair has been patiently waiting on the first team bench but hardly had a look-in during a season which so far has seen senior players recovering from injury given priority and a reluctance by Scolari to use youth at his disposal during a nasty blip for the club in the current Premier League campaign.

The youngster made his Chelsea debut against Arsenal in May 2007 and scored his first senior goal against Hull City last season under Avram Grant in the Carling Cup.  He has made only four appearances this season.

This latest move on Sinclair’s trajectory is obviously a way of giving him competitive football for a short time and the optimist in me faintly sees this as perhaps a sign that a new wide player may be signed during this January transfer window.

Hopefully Sinclair will get some useful experience at Birmingham but he will have to be called back at some point if he is to get the club time required by UEFA to qualify for the academy section for the next Champions League Squad list for 2009/10.

This will be the youngsters 5th loan club having already served at Plymouth, QPR, Charlton and Crystal Palace and he follows other Chelsea players loaned to Birmingham in the recent past such as Forssell and Jarosik.

Apparently McLeish has been interested in Sinclair since the summer:
