In Group F Brazil took on Croatia and whilst watching the game on BBC and listening to the wafflings of 65 year old John Motson (You can retire you know), I stumbled across a newspaper article that had the headline, 'HE'S BEEN SHOWN THE RED BUTTON. DIGITAL VIEWERS ARE SILENCING MOTTY BY USING THEIR TV REMOTE CONTROL.'

When you read the article in more depth, the BBC claim that viewers are switching to interactive and preferring Radio 5's Live broadcast. If listening to an even worse commentator in Alan Green is your thing, I would prefer to watch the action commentary free.

A 5 Live insider said "Listeners have been saying for a long time that they turn the television commentary down and listen to the radio during games."

Oh yes I remember it well especially when Jonathan Pearce used to work for Independent Radio.

It is interesting how the article and the BBC's responses surround Motson only - doesn't that tell you anything that Motson has many faults including stating the obvious, feeding us with useless stats and information, mistakingly identifying players, failing to keep up with play and showing shameless biaise towards teams, albeit in Club or Country.

Two examples that spring to mind are Liverpool in this year's FA Cup Final and Brazil.

In fairness he work in this evening's game wasn't as bad as it could have been, but Brazil still have the potential of another six games to go, so we shall see.

For the record Brazil beat Croatia 1-0, the goal scored by Kaka who incidentally is in '18 Years A Blue's' dream team.

Today's action includes Chelsea's new signing Shevchenko as he lines u for the Ukraine against Spain in Group H. Also in Group H is Tunisia v Saudi Arabia.

The second round of matches start today as host nation Germany take on Poland in Dortmund in the evening kick-off. Will Michael Ballack start his 2006 World Cup campaign? And will Poland's notorious hooligans start their reign of violence to back-up their claim 'that this World Cup will be the most violent and bloodiest ever?'

No doubt all will be revealed as the day pans out.
