For those late-comers they missed Brighton taking the lead on four minutes when Joe Gatting, nephew of ex-England captain Mike Gatting, netted after Harry Worley completely missed his clearance.

On eight minutes Man of the Match Scott Sinclair picked up a poor Brighton defensive clearance just inside the Brighton half and ran and ran with the ball before slotting home back across the sprawling goalkeeper, John Sullivan.

On twenty-one minutes Brighton scored again as Chelsea 'keeper Hamann completely missed a Brighton corner, in the ensuring melee, Chelsea cleared off the line THREE times before the ball fell kindly to Leach who slammed the ball home.

Prior to the third goal of the game. Watkins had a shot cleared off the line. Sinclair forced Sullivan into a fine diving save but luck wasn't on Chelsea' side.

If the first half was Brighton's then the second half completely belonged to Chelsea. Chelsea had all the possession, Sinclair created havoc down the left and Sullivan was forced to make a brilliant point-blank save from Shaun Cummings midway through the second half.

The last ten minutes saw a flurry of bookings the worst being a crude tackle by Bridcutt on Brighton's Chamberlain. Bridcutt got booked for the tackle and Chamberlain was booked for reacting, which caused about ten players to get involved.

Five minutes from time after good work by Elmer and Cummings and from a low Elmer cross on Chelsea's left, Sinclair side-footed just past the post. Prior to that James Simmonds hit a free-kick also by the same post.

On the whole Brighton deserved their win purely because they were older and that little bit more wiser, but for Chelsea's efforts they did deserve that second equaliser.
