The Independent are reporting that we are about to give former Blue, Roberto Di Matteo the position of assistant coach.  Presumably, this reported move has already been cleared with Andre Villas Boas – and if so, after the disappointment of the early sacking of Ancelotti, this means the news for Chelsea supporters just keeps getting better and better.

Change, as detailed HERE  http://www.thefootballnetwork.net/main/chelsea-/s379/st169428/change  in our previous piece, is indeed afoot; it is quite clear that the direction of the club is towards young, dynamic management with an emphasis on open, expansive football.  Di Matteo has already shown with West Brom that he wants his players to move the ball around quickly within created space, whilst Villas Boas, despite possessing Mourinho’s methodology and thoroughness, likes his players to attack and express themselves.

The appointment of Di Matteo also astutely gives Villas Boas something that Ancelotti lacked after the disgraceful sacking of Ray Wilkins – and up-to-date knowledge of the Premier League and its players.  Something else that goes down well with the Chelsea faithful – both Villas Boas and Di Matteo have been at the club before.

This possible move for Di Matteo hasn’t yet been widely reported by the media at the moment – but let’s hope it’s true.  I am not sure whose idea this was (Is Ron Gourlay that visionary?) but it could turn out to be one of the best ideas yet at the club - in a long, long while.

confirmed by official site and Steve Holland gets promotion from the reserves as an assistant first coach and the rumours will not go away that Gianfranco Zola will be returning to the club
