Mourinho to Return?! (+ Video!)

THE SPECIAL ONE

By dixon9
May 25 2008

In the wake of Grants unsurprising exit from Stamford Bridge, the names of his successor are sure to be touted around the media like confetti at a wedding. Chelsea haven’t succeeded in passing the baton of the Mourinho legacy on to someone strong enough to take us down the home straight. So what do we do if there isn’t anyone up to the mark? We could always try passing it on to Mourinho himself?!

Sounds too fantastic doesn’t it? Highly implausible! But if it happened it would be incredible – it would rock the football world and whilst deep down inside I feel that it just couldn’t happen I keep glancing back at the not so slim evidence to make a case for it.

Ian McGarry from “The Sun” (Yes! I know! I can hear you all groaning!) surprisingly is supposed to have the inside track on a lot of what goes on at  Stamford Bridge – it was he that was first up with the Grant sacking this weekend and has inside sources at Chelsea (including Lampard):

“After Jose left, it took a while before he and Roman spoke. But they did and it was amicable. It has become much more frequent and friendly over the last few weeks and it looks like bridges are being rebuilt. "

Other directors have also talked to Jose and the bad blood from before has disappeared.”

Mourinho has been rebuilding his relationship with Abramovich for some time – this isn’t really news in itself – even Mourinho himself said months ago that he talks with Roman and the rest of the suits at Chelsea on a very friendly basis.  However, McGarry reports that over the last few weeks the telephone conversations between the Special One and Roman have been very regular.

Now ex-Barcelona coach Rijkaard does remain favourite to take over and Mourinho to join Inter Milan but I still can’t get my head around this one – Mancini´s agent said only yesterday that his client is staying whilst Rijkaard insists he needs a year off.

Mourinho has still kept in touch with “his boys” and there’s no doubt that the return of Mourinho to Stamford Bridge would steady a ship where one or two are considering deserting.

ROMAN SHED

As for the “Roman would never re-appoint Mourinho – he’d lose face” argument well then there’s the shock news that Roman Abramovich made the Portuguese manager the extraordinary gift of a limited edition Ferrari worth more than £2million a few months ago!  While still at Chelsea, Mourinho had told Abramovich that if he could have any car his choice would be the Scaglietti. Not exactly the sort of thing that Roman might think would go un-noticed is it?!!!

Ok, I could still be grabbing at straws with regard to Mourinho returning but what about the players that we after to rejuvenate the squad?  Bosingwa was originally signed by Mourinho for Porto – we’ve just signed him.  Robinho has long been coveted by the Special One – Mourinho once described him as “Liquid Gold” – and we are (supposedly) after him…..Who´s recommending these signings?  What next?  Drogba announcing he wants to stay?  The plot would then thicken wouldn’t it?!

I honestly think Mourinho will return – BUT not just yet – probably as the ONE AFTER the next manager.  Knowing us we´ll probably end up with Eriksson or somebody!

Still, in the meantime, I’m going to fantasise a little – it’s almost helping the pain ease from last Wednesday evening.

(Have a look at the video below – we could have all this back again!):

That was Sky wasn´t it? There were no quotes in the report though - very fishy - seemed very much like a planted story.

My opinion is that Mourinho will come back - and he should come back with full management control- only if Abramovich and the likes of Peter Kenyon and the rest of the board cede ownership of the club. They stabbed Mourinho and the supporters in the back when Peter Kenyon wilfully denied the central defender and the forward that would have enabled us to win the Champions League Title in 2007. We played that season with only one central defender because of Peter Kenyon´s wilful and premeditated decision, and that is criminal!!!
Shame on you, Peter Kenyon!!!!!!!!!!!

You know I actually believe Kenyon did everything in his power to mantain Mourinho at the Bridge - he publicly supported him often before his exit.

But look on the bright side - another Chelsea poster.

Still not enough for a 5-a-side team though.

I wonder what position Padre would play? probably your partner at the centre of defence?

Merlion? Anybody´s guess!

AF the creative midfielder I suppose.....Bwana...the mad, temperamental forward.

Since 66 would be a tough, uncompromising defender in the "Chopper Harris" mould....I see myself as the target man up front - good games and bad but at least a 20 goals a season man!

....Carefree in midfield....
