Chris Dickson Heads to Rivals Bristol Rovers

Exit London Enter Bristol
By Nick Blackbourn
September 18 2009
Chris Dickson finally sealed his move out of the Valley. Not to Gillingham, as the Kent club seemed to convince themselves, but to Bristol Rovers. Parkinson seems to hope the move will become permanent.

A major factor in the decision to allow Dickson to go to Bristol is their apparent ability to offer a transfer fee should the player impress over his loan period. This looks like it could be the end of Chris Dickson's career at Charlton.

The Ghana striker joins Rovers on a 3 month loan deal with an option to recall after 28 days. The hope is that Dickson will drive up his own value and will be sold in the next transfer window, generating funds for our own dealings.

The risk, of course, is that Dickson will score the goals that will raise Rovers into promotion rivals for us. Parkinson believes he has accepted this risk, especially in light of our own financial position.

Though an exciting player, Dickson has never really looked like he would become a starter for us. His appearances off the bench came when we needed a goal and certainly looked like he could get one, but his all-round game is not his strong point. Tuna and McLeod are rated higher by the manager so this seems like a sensible move the club.

Good luck Chris. Play well and earn the team that gave you your big break a tidy sum!

I'm not too worried about losing him. McLeod and Tuna are better players.
