Sodje Replaced Llera
Phil Parkinson elected to replace Miguel Llera and give Sam Sodje his first start of the season. The big defender did impress at Elland Road and his all-action performance will give the manager food for thought when Sodje returns from international duty after next weekend's game against Oldham.
Charlton headed into this fixture on the back of a poor performance at Colchester. The team responded with an extremely positive result away at the league leaders. Both sides had opportunities to break the deadlock. Jermaine Beckford was uncharacteristically wasteful when he shot wide after latching onto a Neil Kilkenny through-ball.
Rob Elliot was Charlton's best player but that does not mean the Addicks had no chances of their own to grab what would have been an important victory. Jonjo Shelvey had more than one opportunity as did Spring, who had a shot well saved later on in the game
A point is a very good result for Charlton. After a poor result midweek, heading to Elland Road to take on first placed Leeds was a daunting task. Defeat would have allowed Leeds to pull away at the top, instead just three points separate the top two. Bristol Rovers are just two points behind the Addicks despite a 5-1 thrashing at Norwich.
After a midweek cup game, Oldham are next up for Charlton. Winning home games must be a 'bread and butter' task if we hope to be challenging for promotion. There are no easy games, however, and that's why we need our flair players Sam, Shelvey, Bailey etc. to perform more often than not.
But before all that is a chance to play for some silverware; the Johnstone's Paint Trophy is upon us. Come on you Reds!
