Burton scores the fifth
Many Charlton fans looked at this fixture with some trepidation. Would this be the game when Charlton slip out of the automatic promotion spots, never to return? The answer was an emphatic 'no'.
The Addicks went a goal down and could have conceded another before Mooney scored from a Nicky Bailey free-kick after a knock down left him in acres of space in the Dons six-yard box.
Eight minutes later Bailey himself got on the score sheet. A Lloyd Sam run led to a great cross which Bailey would have done well to miss. 2 - 1 at the break, the game still competitive and a great spectacle despite the high winds in South East London.
A second half ten minute spell saw another three goals for Parkinson's men. Sam scored a wonderful goal after a jinking run, Sodje scored a headed goal from a corner and Burton chipped the keeper to emphasize the scoreline.
MK Dons will be extremely upset to lose by such a margin but, obviously, this will delight the Charlton squad after a dire week and three straight losses. Even if we have struggled in cup competitions, we remain second in the league. Continued performances like this and we will stay there.
