Youga holds off Barcham
The top of the League One table remains extremely tight after yesterday's fixtures. Charlton will wish they had better capitalised on Leeds' first defeat of the season at the hands of Millwall. However, it wasn't to be.
As well as sponsors KRBS, Charlton shared the points on offer with Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium on Saturday. Parkinson bemoaned the state of the pitch after the fixture, and suggested that it was a factor in the scrappy game that had transpired.
Gillingham will rue not the pitch, but the form of Rob Elliot in the Charlton goal; a string of saves kept the game goalless in the first half. The Gills were unlucky to go into half time level.
Charlton were able to apply more pressure on the home side after the break. This better play finally impacted the scoreline after the introduction of Mooney. His entry coincided with a spectacular own-goal from John Nutter on 79 minutes.
The lead was held for just three minutes before Simone Jackson - previously coveted by Parkinson - smashed home an equaliser. Neither team could find a winner, and 1 - 1 it finished.
As things stand Colchester trail Charlton by one point, MK Dons by three. Norwich continue their charge up the table. There is little margin for error and promotion chasing teams will have to consistently pick up points remain in contention for automatic promotion.
Charlton have now won just 1 in the last 4 and though there is not yet cause for panic, a return to consistent winning performances is a must if Addicks are to remain in the automatic promotion spots.
