Charlton Acquire Striker Mooney from Reading

Mooney signs until Dec 1
By Nick Blackbourn
October 16 2009
After the discovery of Deon Burton's hernia problem and a 'setback' in training for Leon McKenzie, Charlton signed David Mooney from Reading ahead of the Huddersfield game.

With Burton an injury concern, just Izale Mcleod remains as a senior striker at the club. It is clear that cover up-front is needed and Mooney is a player Parkinson has been tracking for a while and has signed from Parky's former club until December 1.

This is clearly a move that will ensure we aren't left without any options should Burton's hernia flair up. Tamer Tuna appears to be progressing well, but is obviously not ready to be relied upon as a first choice player.

Hopefully the 24 year old Mooney will make a big impact during his time here and earn himself a move to the Valley in January; if we get further investment by that time, and that he wants to come.

Realistically, he has joined Charlton as a precautionary measure. Mooney has not been signed as a new, major component of the squad. No-one at Charlton would complain, though, if that is what he becomes during his time at the Valley.

Welcome David Mooney.
