Off to Gillingham?
The Gills obviously appreciate what the Ghana international did for them last year. Dickson is yet to establish himself in the Charlton first team and appears to be behind both McLeod and Tuna on the bench. It isn't a surprise that he wants to play and that Stimson wants him, given Dickson's scoring record under him.
The low end bid in summer was surely to test the Addicks resolve to keep the striker and was rejected out of hand. Why the offer was then decreased to zero nearer to the window is a mystery. Did they think they would do us a favour taking his wages off the books?! I would hope he is earning a modest reserve strikers wage given when he was signed, and as such we should have no complusion to offload him.
So what are Gillingham trying to do? Unsettle the player? If so, thats bad form. I feel that the fans have given Dickson a chance, he is an exciting player but he needs to fit into the team better. I don't think his Charlton career is over, and if it takes a loan period at Gillingham to spark him back into life, then so be it.
The Gills should make an approach to Charlton before they speak to the national media about how soon Dickson will be playing for them. As long as we insert a recall clause in the loan agreement, it seems a good deal all around. So make the call Stimson! It's up to Charlton, not you, whether they loan out their contracted players.
