21st : Chester City set for relegation battle?
By Nathan Jackson July 16 2008
Chester City are one of those sides that are in danger of relegation on a regular basis. They have struggled against a return to the non-league since being promoted in 2004, They now have an inexperienced manager and (putting it nicely) a squad that will never be considered world-beaters.

WHO ARE CHESTER CITY?

WHO IS SIMON DAVIES?

LAST SEASON'S VIDEO

WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING?

Chester City are one of those sides who you can virtually guarantee they'll be down the bottom at the end of the season. They may occasionally get off to an excellent start to the season, but they inevitably slip down the table as time goes by. Last season was a prime example of that, starting the season off with the best away record in the division. They had an excellent start to last season but just like two year's previously, they suddenly hit a road-block and quickly slid down the table.

However, Chester City were generally safe from relegation last season due to the general crap-fest taking place at Wrexham and Mansfield. It was only in the final weeks that there was the slightest hint of Chester City going down.

One of Chester's problems is that they don't seem able to capitalise on a lead and push on. For example, the game between the Imps and Chester at the Saunders Honda Stadium saw Chester take a lead, only to finish themselves behind three minutes later. That was a surprisingly good game and had almost everything, but it was just revenge for Chester's very fortunate win at Sincil Bank earlier in the season.

Obviously you only see a side twice during the season, barring a cup draw of course. However, there was very little to suggest in our two games against Chester City that they were a decent side. They seemed to offer very little going forward and they didn't manage a single effort in the game at Sincil Bank, yet they still managed to win because of a penalty that still has the vast, vast majority of people mystified.

They only have one player who seems genuinely capable of being a match winner at Chester City is Kevin Ellison. Lincoln fans know what he is capable of, but he is the only player in Chester's side who could easily fit into the majority of other sides in the division. This is what costs Chester, they have no truly good players other than Ellison and if you can keep him quite, you'll keep Chester quiet.

I don't think that Chester are good enough to avoid getting involved in another relegated battle, and that certainly won't be helped by having a rookie manager in charge. Last season they had Bobby Williamson in charge, he had little experience in the English League and it cost them, and Simon Davies is in pretty much the same boat. Infact, Chester fell into deeper trouble last season.

I just can't picture Chester being anywhere other than in a relegation battle. However, I don't think they'll go down. Despite being a bit crap, they are miles better than Accrington Stanley and Dagenham and Redbridge, but 21st is as high as I can predict for them to finish.

OTHER PREDICTIONS SO FAR

22ND - DAGENHAM AND REDBRIDGE

23RD - ACCRINGTON STANLEY

24TH - LUTON TOWN

Now the fun part starts.....I've known for a while who I would put as the top 3 and bottom four, but everything in between I was still debating. So at this stage it's as much a mystery to you as it is to me.
