Fantastic Farman saves Imps after brilliant team goal

Lincoln City can thank Paul Farman for a series of great saves. Tom Miller had given City the lead midway through the first half but other than that, chances for the Imps were few and far between.

City kicked off the game and almost took an early lead after Boyce failed to cleanly connect with a Miller throw in.  Chances were few and far between as the Imps were having plenty of possession but not really creating chances with it.  Ledsham was booked for a foul on Nolan.

Newton and Tomlinson both had efforts charged down before Southport almost scored with an audacious effort. They won a free kick about 40 yards out and Akrigg spotted Farman well off of his line. The goalkeeper had to sprint back and only barely managed the fingertip save that prevented the visitors from taking the lead.

It would prove to be a turn point in the game as virtually every Lincoln player became involved in a lengthy spell of possession. The ball eventually fell to Newton and despite delaying, he found Miller with his cross and the defender headed in completely unmarked from six yards out.

Fofana hit the roof of the net with a cross before a succession of corners came to nothing. Southport almost drew level just before the half but Irie-Bi's effort was superbly blocked by Nolan. Farman was again forced into a brilliant tip over the bar from a Scott Brown effort from distances.

The start to the season half was slow, but the Imps did almost make it two as a Nolan effort went just wide of the posty. Frantic defending saw Hattersley fail to find the net from two efforts, one of which was cleared by Miller on the line.

Tomlinson hit the roof of the net from a hooked shot before Boyce's goalbound effort was deflected wide by one of his teammates.

It was a quiet last few minutes as neither side created a decent chance and the Imps moved back up to 4th.
