Where do you think you're going? : Chester City
By Nathan Jackson May 30 2007
The Imps will make the now annual trip to the Welsh borders during the 2008/9 season to visit the home to Chester City FC, the Saunders Honda Stadium. It's often a ground that recieves negative reviews for it's bland design and is far from atmospheric, of the joys of staying in this Division.

Lincoln will make their 5th consecutive visit to the Saunders Honda stadium during the 2008/9 season and it's a trip that I never personally look forward to. You can guarantee every game that the Imps will have a controversial decision against them. In the previous four visits, we've conceded 2 penalties and 2 further goals from Alan Marriott being clattered, forcing the ball out of his hands and into the attacker's feet.

The Saunders Honda Stadium is quite a poor stadium and lacks any character whatsoever. The designers obviously ran out of serious ideas and decided to build this small and very bland stadium. City will be in the same end as usual this coming season, a seated area that offers a pretty poor view of most of the action due to the size of the pitch. You get a decent view of the action at your end of the pitch, but you'll struggle with anything down the other end.

If you're hoping for an atmosphere then you'll be disappointed, in my visits so far I have yet to hear a single chant from the home supporters and this leads to adding to what is usually a miserable day. I'm not going to lie, I personally hate visiting this ground and can't wait until it's over.

Chester's ground has been build right on the outskirts of an industrial estate and there is very little to do on matchdays before the game begins. If you also fancy a drink, the nearest pub is a 15 minute walk from the ground due to the supporters club no longer allowing away supporters in it.

To get to the ground, follow the signs on the M56 to Wales & Queensferry A5117. when you reach traffic lights after a roundabout, turn left onto the A550.. Then from the A550, take the A548. Head straight through the first set of traffic lights and after turn right at the next lights into Sovereign Way. You'll know you're heading the right way because of a plentiful supply of car dealers in the area.. Continue to the end of Sovereign Way and then turn right into Bumpers Lane and the entrance to the Club car park is just down on the right, the roads outside the ground are also available to park on. No matter which option you choose, it's usually a long wait to get out.

Due to the distance to the ground from Chester Train Station, there are very few realistic trains you could catch there. Each requires you to get the service that heads to Adwick and get off at Sheffield. From there get the Transpennine Express to Manchester Piccadilly and from there get on the Arriva Trains Wales service to Llandudno, getting off at Chester.

Due to the distance between the ground and the train station, the 18:30 is the only realistic train you can catch if you plan to get back the same day. From Chester get the Arriva Trains Wales service to Crewe and from Crewe get the Central Train service to Derby, then from there the Central Train service to Nottingham. Yet another hop on Central Trains will finally see you back in Lincoln.

Due to the distance between the station and stadium, it's best to get a taxi. Going via the train to Chester will set you back £36.30
