Born in 1974, Davies joined the Manchester United youth system in the late 1980's/early 1990's. He was part of the famed team that won the Youth Cup, as well as many progressing onto become first team regulars. Other members of that team included David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, the Neville Brothers, Paul Scholes and several other similar players.
Davies made 11 appearances for Manchester United, the most notable being against Galatasary in the Champions League. Davies scored one of United's four goals that night, but the Red Devils still out went following a poor record against fellow group members, IFK Gothenburg and Barcelona.
However, Davies didn't last and eventually left for Luton Town after loan spells at Exeter City and Huddersfield Town. He made 22 appearances for the Hatters before moving on to Macclesfield, scoring just one goal in his season at Kenilworth Road. He stayed at Macclesfield for two season, netting three goals in 48 appearances.
He spent a season at Rochdale before going into the Welsh Leagues. Two spells at Bangor City sandwiched a spell at Total Network Solutions FC. A brief spell at Rhyl was followed by a return to the Football League, joining Chester City. He didn't make an appearance for Chester but did become caretaker manager towards the end of the 2006/7 season, taking charge of Chester's 2-0 defeat at Sincil Bank on the final day of the season.
Davies was offered the job on a permanent basis, but he decided to take up the post as youth team manager, the managing position went to Bobby Williamson. Chester got off to a great start to the season but eventually started falling away and Williamson was sacked. Davies took over the position on a caretaker basis, eventually taking the job on full time and he will lead Davies' charge against relegation in the forthcoming season.
