6th : Bees buzzing into League One?
By Nathan Jackson August 5 2008
Brentford are one of the sides that have a good chance of promotion. They showed for a long period last season that they are easily capable of promotion, but there are just one or two minor issues to address if they are to maintain a challenge for the Playoffs.

WHO ARE BRENTFORD FC?

WHO IS ANDY SCOTT?

WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING?

LAST SEASON'S VIDEO

I think that Brentford are one of those sides that should be challengers for promotion this season. They showed for a long spell last season that given a bit of luck then they could easily maintain a challenge long-term. If it hadn't been for Terry Butcher then it is likely that Brentford would made the end of season lottery.

It took the board at Brentford long enough to sack Butcher, waiting until two weeks before Christmas. He managed exactly 23 games for the Bees, losing 13 of those. Brentford won eight out of their next twelve games under Andy Scott, coincidence? We think not.

To say there has been quite a shift around in their playing staff is a bit of an understatement. Nine players have joined the club whereas several others have left, including Simon "Can't catch, won't catch" Brown. One of the most vital pieces of business that Brentford have achieved over the summer was keeping hold of the ever impressive Alan Connell. He is one of the most under-rated players in the division and capable of scoring a hatful. His potential partner will be Nathan Elder, the striker joined last season and went on a mini-scoring spree. If those two can co-exist then Brentford are laughing.

My reason for thinking that Brentford will challenge for the Playoffs is that they appear to have a manager who knows what he is doing in the form of Andy Scott. He's got the tactics generally right and unlike Butcher, actually seems able to fit his tactics book onto something more than a post-it note.

The only thing that will probably stop Brentford is that they have a tendency to put in really rubbish performances for a few weeks in a row. They were atrocious at Sincil Bank last season and based on reports from other fans, that was the story of their other games around the time. Infact, after that aforementioned eight wins in twelve games, the club went until the end of the season of just four wins in fifteen matches.

However, I think that they could easily knock those runs and poor performances out of their system and pounce on the Playoffs come May.
