Brentford's Manager - Andy Scott
By Nathan Jackson August 5 2008
Andy Scott is the manager of Brentford FC. His playing career was cut short in 2005 when health issues halted his time at Leyton Orient. His record as manager of Brentford is fairly mixed but he is showing the early signs of being a half-decent manager, certainly more than the previous occupants of the Griffin Park hotseat.

Andy Scott was playing in League Two as recently as the 2004/5 season. He spent a season at Brentford in this division and spent the final four seasons of his career in the fourth tier with Oxford and Luton.

At just 36, Scott is one of the youngest men managing in the Football League. Born in 1972 in Epsom, Scott started his career at Sutton Unite before being transferred to Sheffield United. Including a few appearances in the Premiership, Scott played 75 times for the Blades and scored just 6 times. His spell there also included loan spells at Chesterfield and Bury.

He transferred to Brentford for £75,000 and scored thirty goals in 125 appearances. He again transferred for £75,000 and this time it was to Oxford United. His time there was mixed in terms of League positions, but he did score 24 goals in his 95 games there, this almost helped the club make the 2002/3, missing out to by mere minutes.

A transfer to Leyton Orient saw his final club during his career as health issues brought his professional career to a premature end. He was offered a coaching role at Orient and became youth team manager before moving onto Brentford to become Terry Butcher's assistant manager. Butcher made a hash of the job and Scott was handed the job, sparking Brentford to life and it looked for a time that he would guide them to an unlikely Playoff push, he failed but there are certainly reasons to be optimistic later on in his managerial career.
