Where Do you Think You're Going? : Grimsby
By Nathan Jackson
June 1 2007
City make their usual trip to Blundell Park during the forthcoming season, hoping to improve on a record of 2 defeats and a 0-0 draw from our last 3 visits to the seaside club. Grimsby are one of the few sides that don't play in the palce they're named after, but it leads to a great day out in the arcades as part of a traditional day at the beach.

It seems like an eternity since we won 4-2 there just over 3 years ago (at time of writting) doesn't it. It's a ground that hasn't been kind to us since that day. Infact, Lincoln haven't even scored in the League at Blundell Park since then.

I like going to Blundell Park because it's usually an enjoyable day out (ignoring the chance of violence) and it gives me a chance to go to Cleethorpes sea front again, something I used to do near enough every Saturday of my childhood summers. Unfortunately, we haven't had a 3pm Saturday kick off since the aforementioned 4-2 win and that limits the chances of having a day out in Cleethorpes.

The away end is quite unusual but generally offers a great view of the action.....but do not sit on the top 4 rows if you intend on watching what's happening in the other half of the pitch. The stand allows for a decent atmosphere to be created but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be the same case for Grimsby fans. Maybe it's the openness of the ground, but neither set of fans seems to hear the other and yet both claim to have sung all match long.

As for getting there, head to the A180 and keep driving and you'll eventually see the ground on your left. There is no parking at the ground so I would recommend parking on the sea-front. That gives you a chance to access one of the many pubs around that area that allows away fans in.....DO NOT GO IN THE PUB AT THE GROUND. Trust me on that one, I've been in there on one occasion (not wearing a Lincoln shirt) and it's not the sort of place you'll want to go if you're intending on not getting the crap kicked out of you.

I'm putting the times to Cleethorpes on because it's easier to get to the ground from there rather than Grimsby station, plus there's a hell of a lot more to do one your way to the ground. Each of the outbound trains require you to change at Grimsby for the Cleethorpes train. For

the return journey, again make the change at Grimsby.

To get to the ground from the station, go down the short staircase next to the Chip shop on the station platform and just walk forward for about 15/20 minutes before you come to a bridge going over the train tracks. Go over it and turn right on the other side and walk forward about 200 metres to get to the away turnstiles.

Also, Grimsby/Cleethorpes is one of the few away grounds you can reach via public bus from Lincoln Bus Stadion. To get there via the Stagecoach bus, catch the number 3 service and that takes you to the seafront in Cleethorpes. A timetable for the buses can be found here : http://www.stagecoachbus.com/timetables/003Gy.pdf
