Chesterfield are one of those sides that only finish up high because of one player. Jack Lester is the difference maker at Chesterfield and he is there only realistic hope of securing a place in the Playoffs. Other than him the Spirites actually have a pretty average squad, with maybe only one or two other decent players, if that.

There is always at least one team in this division that only finishes where they do because of one player. There was Lee Trundle at Swansea, Michael Bridges at Carlisle and now we have Jack Lester at Chesterfield. To sum up exactly how much Lester means to the Chesterfield side, if you take away the goals he scored last season then Chesterfield lose 14 points, knocking them down to 16th and falling into a negative goal difference.

Other than him there are very few players that you could class as match winners in the Chesterfield side, or even those that come clos to having the same sort of impact that Lester does. One of those is Jamie Ward. The youngster has come close to joining the Imps several times in the recent past. 15 goals in 44 League appearances for the Spirities isn't a bad return when you consider he only just turned 22.

Don't get me wrong, Chesterfield were arguably the best side we faced last season. They played consistently well in the two games against us, scoring 8 goals past our rather statuesque defence and goalkeeper. However, they don't seem to be able to replicate those kinds of performances on a regular basis and I think this inevitably is one of their downfalls.

They rely on Lester far too heavily and they seriously need to bring in at least one player with a similar level of influence in order to sneak into those Playoffs. However, I think they'll do exceedingly well to find another Jack Lester-esque player and just like last season, their form will more than likely go to pot if Lester does get injured, hence why I'm predicting them to finish 8th.
