Where are you going : Port Vale
By Nathan Jackson July 3 2008
Lincoln City face the ever exciting prospect of a trip to Port Vale. City haven't faced Port Vale in the League for many years, the last two visits there have both been in cup competitions, a 0-0 draw and a 2-1 defeat proving the last stop in the LDV Vans and the FA Cup respectively.

Lincoln City will travel to a ground where the home team claim it can hold 18,900. I'm just curious how they came to that figure considering that thise ground only has 3.5 stands and none of them are particularly big. Then again, it's hardly the best looking ground in the world, meaning that the people counting felt sorry for Port Vale and said the capacity is higher than it actually is.

Vale Park is an eyesore of a ground and I can't say it's a bad thing that I've only ever had one opportunity to go to this ground. There were very little positive things about this ground when I went their for the FA Cup game. There was no atmosphere to speak of whatsoever, but I couldn't give an opinion either way on the Vale fans pleasentless, this is due to me not interacting with any of their fans before hand.

The club shop at Vale Park is HUGE. They sell football items, and items from many other sports such as snooker, bowls, croquet, rugby, you name it and it's in there. That is one of the few good points about this ground.

Parking around the ground is fairly plentiful , with parking at the ground available as well as street parking. It does cost to park at the ground but there is plenty of local parking that you can get away relatively quickly.

Leave the M6 at junction 15 or 16 and take the A500 towards Stoke on Trent. Follow A500 until the A527 exit. At the next island, turn right for Burslem town centre. Continue straight on until you get to a crossroads, turn left and then the ground is on your left.

The trains are fairly simply. The 7:04 service requires you to travel up to Sheffield and then catch the service that goes to Liverpool Lime Street, getting off at Stockport. From there you must catch the train down to Bournemouth, getting off at the Stoke on Trent stop.

The train leaving at 7:30 requires you to go down to Nottingham before repeating the last few steps of the previous journey. Catch the train to Liverpool Lime Street, getting off at Stockport and then to Stoke from there.

On the way back, catch the service back to Derby before switching to Nottingham and then up to Lincoln from there. The station is 4 miles from the ground, so it's best to get a taxi.
