Where do you think you're going : Macclesfield
By Nathan Jackson June 3 2007
Lincoln City make their 11th straight visit to Macclesfield Town in the 2008/9 season hoping for their second victory in a row at Moss Rose. It's a ground that is quite dangerous to get to from Lincoln. especially if you're making the drive in the pitch black and heavy rain, and let's face it, it's not exactly Old Trafford or the Emirates when you actually get there.

Lincoln City go to Macclesfield Town for a night match YET again during the coming season. The Imps and Macclesfield regularly play their fixtures at Moss Rose on a Tuesday night. Only two meetings in the past six seasons have been played on Saturday afternoons, although two of the night matches were re-arranged fixtures, one was boxing day and the other was New Year's Day.

Macclesfield's away end is divided into two, the first is a terrace that offers an average view of the action, although the goal-line isn't seeable from the terrace. The other is a seated section in the stand to the right of the terrace. My personal preference is the seated section. A great view of the action and better facilities. Plus, there's not much chance of getting soaked like we did during the 2006/7 season.

I can't really say I have much experience of the type of people that Macclesfield fans are. I've never interacted with any of them to make a fair assesment on that account. However, they don't create an atmosphere in the ground, it'd be pretty hard to with the crowds they get.

Getting to Macclesfield is a death trap if you set your sat-nav to "Quickest Route." I made the mistake of doing that in the 2006/7 season and ended up going around an area that was situated in the hills and had the tighted corners you could ever take. On the way back there were no lights whatsoever and it was absolutely pissing it down. The complete dark and lack of visability due to fog (even with my high-beam lights on) and the rain almost saw us drive off the side of the hill.

There is another route you can take but it is quite similar and involves you approaching Macclesfield from the South rather than the north. Leave the M6 at Junction 17 and turn onto the A534. When you've got to the centre of Congleton then take the A54. Stay on this road for 5 miles and then turn onto the A523. From here the ground will be on your left.

There is limited free parking at the ground right outside the away end, but make sure you don't park too near the middle otherwise you will have to wait for the coaches to move as they block the only exit for the people in the centre. There is plenty of street parking though around the ground.

Pubs are extremely limited as well, with the nearest one being about a 10 minute walk down the road to the north. All the pubs are around that sort of area.

I have not included train times in this guide due to the fact it's a night game. Feel free to go via train if you want, but don't expect to get back the same night.
