Craig Hignett deserves a break and a decent cup run would go a long way to giving him and the club the bit of success they deserve.
The news that our only really dangerous player is out until well into the New Year is a bad blow.
Nathan Thomas has been the bright spark and the goalscorer, but the groin injury he sustained in the 3-2 reverse at Barnet is bad enough to need the surgeon's scalpel. We wish him a speedy recovery.
While he is away we need to find the way to win. Ten times we have been in the lead and not won the game, and it may be that we have actually been misisng the likes of Bates and Magnay more than we may miss Thomas.
We need a formula that works on the pitch and a cup run might help solve that conundrum.
Pools fans might have hoped that the game against non-league Stamford was away as the change of name for the Vic to to Northern Power and Gas stadium has not brought us any victories.
That will change. It has to says the law of averages, and lets hope its on Sunday as going out to a non-league team would be a bitter blow.
