You wouldn't have credited it two months ago. One game to go and Pools are safe despite being marooned at the bottom of the league at the turn of the year.

Now isn't the time to go into why we got in this mess -  although Ken Hodcroft was fairly clear it wasn't he or chief exec Russ Green who got rid of some experienced and committed Pools players last summer in return for some Boro Old Boys.

Instead let's rejoice in the commitment and passion of the players who earned that historic 2-1 victory againt Exeter.

There were some players who gave so much they could hardly get off the pitch. Foremost was young Fenwick who took his goal well and, apart a ridiculous attempt at getting a penalty when he'd been the one to poleaxe an Exeter defender, had a  tremendous game.

Striking partner Hugill also gave it his all as did Tschibola in midfield and Scott Harrison in defence closely followed by the rest of the squad.

Moore can now start looking to next season and, despite all of the loanees presumably not coming back, he does have a decent spine of a team.

Flinders, Harrison, Jones, Duckworth, Woods, Featherstone and Fenwick form  that basis. When Brad Walker gets his football head back on he will be one as well.

That's a start let's see what Magic Moore  can conjour up during the summer.
