Tommy Miller has finally signed for Pools to provide a bit of good news ahead of the tricky league opener at Stevenage. It's 13 years since he left the club for Ipswich providing a nice little earner of three quarters of a million ...

He's a bit slower these days  but his wealth of experience and passion for the club which gave him his break, and employed his dad as chief scout, could count for a lot.

Colin Cooper must be pleased to finally bring some good news and admits he's still on the look-out for loan players. He's also yet to decide on the first team skipper whic is likely to be either Neil Austin or MichaelBates. The latter is probably the biggest bonus of the close season - providing he stays fit.

Bates is a quality defender, but a series of knee operations have blighted what could have been a sparkling career. It's not too late to resurrect it and let's hope he does.
