Hartlepool have been fined for fielding a weakened team during their 3-1 game in the Johnstons Paint Trophy. The fine was given on the same day that Hartlepool were presented with the trophy for team of the round
It was a fantastic evening for Pools when a mixture of reserves and first team players outplayed a strong Rotherham side and won the game 3-1.
The rules of the trophy state that 6 of the most capped first teamers must be in the side for the game. Hartlepool, however, only played 5 of the most capped first teamers.
Jim Provett, Philip Turnbull, David Foley, John Brackstone, Lee Bullock and Gavin Strachan were all named in the team however none of these players qualify as most capped players.
Hartlepool have been drawn against Doncaster in the second round which takes place on Tuesday night. Will Pools have learnt their lesson or will they rebel against the tournament and play another reserve side
