Nicky Nicolau joined Lincoln City in July 2011 following spells with various other non-league clubs. The former Southend man had played for Steve Tilson at Southend before moving onto Swindon and then Barnet as he looked to re-established the form that had seen him play for Arsenal's succesful youth team.

English born Cyrpriot Nicky Nicolau started life with Arsenal and despite never making a first team appearance, he did help the club win the FA Youth Cup in 2011. His first ever spell of first team action came as Southend manager Steve Tilson signed him on loan for Southend. He did enough in his nine games to earn himself a deal. One year later and he was celebrating promotion after Southend beat Lincoln 2-0 in the League Two Playoff Final.

He soon left Southend to go to Swindon after delaying a decision about whether to sign the new contact. He didn't have a good spell at Swindon, only making five appearances for the Robins before being released at the end of the season after an unsuccessful loan spell at Hereford.

Barnet soon snapped him up but he was released a year later, only for Barnet to change their minds and offer him a new contract. Twelve months later and Nicolau rejected the offer of a new contact and had trials at Brighton and Grimsby before eventually resigning for Barnet. He left the Bees for a third time in 2009 before spells with Woking, Dover and finally Borehamwood before joining Lincoln in 2011.

Despite being very consistent, Nicolau very rarely found himself as a regular in the first team, often being used to cover injuries, and despite rarely putting in a poor performance, he was dropped as soon as those he was covering for returned from injury.

There were long spells very Nicolau was forced to watch his team-mates play poorly and it was little surprise when he left at the end of the 2012/13 season, that despite his return to the first team helping the club win their last two games, two wins that proved vital in the battle for survivor.
