One of the more unique grounds in the whole UK as it has a stock car track around the outside of the pitch. The ground does seem more build towards that and the stands are quite unusual, however, there was plenty to like about this club, including the fact they've produced a book about when they didn't win at home for two years.
One of my earliest memories of following Motherwell (as an 8yr old) was at this ground when we beat them 2-0 in the Scottish Cup on 14th Feb 1976.I sat on the wall at the edge of the speedway track.
I remember we took a massive away support.
Another similar ground was Shawfield Stadium which used to be the home of Clyde FC. It had a greyhound track running round the outside of the pitch between the pitch and the terracing.
Hamiltons old ground 'Douglas Park' used to be over the back from where the new ground is until the land was bought by a supermarket (which is still there).
Was always a good day out on the train to watch Motherwell play at Hamilton
Shame you didnt. It's only the other side of the motorway from Hamilton. You can see it on your right from the motorway when you travel north.
Fir Park used to hold around 22,000 when it was all terracing but now only holds about 14,000 now that it's all seated.
It's getting a bit dated and there's talk of moving to a new stadium on the old Ravenscraig Steelworks site.
I'd like too see it stay where it is.
