There was delight when it was announced that Rene Howe had signed on loan from Peterborough. The striker had impressed with Morecambe and Rochdale and was tipped to do big things for City, especially as our top four scorers from the previous season had gone, it's just a pity that he turned out to be a bit rubbish.

If there was one player who we should never have gotten excited about, it was Rene Howe. For someone who ultimately didn't do a lot, he sure as hell had one big ego.

The striker had "Legend" written into his Facebook username and the hype surrounding his capture on loan lead City fans to believe that Peter Jackson had found the replacement for the outgoing goalscorers. He's certainly got the confident part right, but unfortunately he wasn't as much as a "Legend" as he would believe.

Games would often pass him buy and two of his first three goals came about because he near enough literally bullied Chris Fagan off of the ball. The first was for a penalty that he refused to let Fagan take, the second was literally pushing the striker out of the way when it looked like he would get to the loose ball first.

With two of his goals being penalties, two being open goals and only one an actual decent finish, Howe was certainly hyped up to a level that was certainly beyond his ability. You would often go games without noticing he's there and it strikes me as no coincedence that the goals starting coming on a bit more frequent basis after he left.

He has also played for Gillingham this season and has scored twice in seventeen games....Legend? I think not.
