Lincoln City were thumped 5-1 by a Grimsby side battling for their lives at the bottom of the division. Proudlock scored a hatrick for the hosts who were running riot as City got their biggest defeat by a country mile of the season. It was a frustrating game as despite creating decent chances, City yet again failed to convert all but a very fortunate penalty. The game started quickly with the Mariners winning a free kick within a minute following a foul from Kovacs. The ball was put into the box and cleared for a breakaway attack from the Imps. Oakes ran with the ball and forced Boshell into a handball, Kerr flicked the ball in and it was headed over by Kovacs. Proudlock shot onto the roof for the hosts before Atkinson sent a weak effort at Burch.

Clarke volleyed over from a corner before Atkinson denied Elding a run on goal after a Horsfield flick on. N'Guessan's first contribution to the match saw him skip past an attempt tackle from Henderson outside of the box, only for his cross to miss a connection with Horsfield. An even better effort for City saw Beevers get past Hegarty before playing a ball low into the box, N'Guessan was inches from connecting for what would have been a certain goal for City.

However, despite City having all the chances, the ball was spending the majority of it's time in the host's half and that eventually told just before half time as Boshell played a ball into the box and Proudlock looping it over Burch and into the City net. Kalala fired wide for the hosts just a few minutes later but the hosts still went into the half time break with the initative.

Elding had the second half's first chance when his header went straight into Henderson's hands, Clarke's header a few minutes later went just wide. Oakes was booked for a handball and Burch had to be alert to save from Akpro. City broke from this and just weeks after Tom Newey rejected a move to the Imps, he handled in the area and gifted City a penalty, N'Guessan slotting it away.

City made a double substitution as Ben Wright and Michael O'Connor came onto the pitch, replacing Clarke and Horsfield. Wright quickly gained his first ever booking for the Imps after nearly two years, fouling Newey viciously after the ball had gone. It was now all City and Kerr, Wright and Elding all had opportunities to swing for the same loose ball, none of whom managed it connect with it. Elding then sent a header straight at Henderson.

From that attack came a Grimsby attack, their first of the half  and it saw several defenders fail to clear the ball and Akpro smashing home. It was now all Grimsby and they extended their lead just a few minutes later when Proudlock pounced on another loose ball and then a third goal in five minutes saw Proudlock grab his hatrick, hitting a Hegarty cross into the net. Grimsby were now on their way to just their fifth win of the season.

Patulea had an attack blocked before O'Connor was booked. Grimsby completed their thumping of City as Akpro again popped up, firing past Burch and that was the final action of a game that has ended City's faint chance of the Playoffs.

Inept and spineless, City are back to normal

Bit nearer I fear than the report on the OS which made out we dominated for long periods bar the last 20 minutes.
Nathan I admire that you home and away I did in mid 20s seriously mate save your money just think what you could do with £40/50 you spend on away games.
They currently dont deserve it. Thats your money or support.

If I'm being honest, I drove from Leeds yesterday after a party with some old friends and on the way back to Nottingham after the game, I was actually thinking about taking an away game off. Might as well go to the home games because I've already paid for them, but the season is already over so there's no need to worry about missing anything on the road.

We did dominate in spells, especially in the second half until they scored their goal.

Yes but its about taking chances the edling shoulder i mean header was the final straw!

Listened on the radio didn't sound to clever in the first half got into to it either side of our goal. Then once they took the lead again we just fell to pieces chasing a 2nd leveller.
still think we've been lucky of late that someone else hasn't done it to us before. I'm probably so angry beacause it was the cods and the fact they hadn't won for 10 games.
I think Jackson's comments in the paper have angered more than the result yesterday if I'm honest.

The assistant raised his flag for offside so it wouldn't have mattered. The ref played the advantage.

The only good thing about yesterday for me is that we dont have to go back to a s**t hole like that till next season And yes i dont think they will go down because even the cods should kick on and pull away from basement after a result like that
