If there's one thing that being a Lincoln City fan has taught us, it's not to get excited by new signings that you would initially think would be great. For example, Stefan Oakes was a name that everyone was excited about, yet the reports from Notts County and Wycombe fans that he is lazy and incredibly injury prone have certainly come to Sincil Bank. However, the signings of Anthony Elding and Geoff Horsfield feel different.
The strange this about Elding is that I was thinking about him whilst at work the other night and how we'd come close on a few occasions to signing him, wondering if we'd ever get him. You can imagine my surprise when we did get him and he's a player that I am excited about. Not to forget Horsfield, it's not often we get a striker of his calibre.
It makes a change to know that we have three strikers capable of winning a match on the pitch, it'll certainly be interesting to see which two of Elding, Horsfield and Patulea that Jackson players. However, we can almost predict it will be Elding and Horsfield as Jackson proved last week that he doesn't think we need our leading goalscorer on the pitch to look dangerous, a theory that was quickly disproven.
Other than the aforementioned three, no other striker looks like scoring. John-Lewis is just plain crap, Sam Mullarkey has had just TWO shots in his five games, one of which was off target, even defenders such as Danny Hone and Paul Green have had more shots than him, and Ben Wright misses so many sitters that it's just unreal.
So, who can we expect to play? Rob Burch is an almost guarantee with Lee Beevers, Janos Kovacs, Hone and Green in front of him. The midfield is also a bit of a debatable issue. Frecklington and Kerr are almost definites to start, and whether Jackson play his favourite player (Lenny - let's face it, he must be as it's the only way he gets in the squad) is almost not worth debating.
Dany N'Guessan is likely to play after a fairly decent performance against Luton, actually, in all fairness he was one of only a small handful of players to come out of the game with any credit, but does he deserve to start in front of Aaron Brown? Another debateable point.
Brentford are one of the division's best sidses. They lead a group of teams that are so tight that Brentford could fall from 2nd to 7th if they lose to the Imps on Saturday. They have an excellent away record, winning two more points on the road than the Imps have at home, meaning that this is arguably City's hardest game of the season so far.
The game at Griffin Park was ruined by the referee, neither set of fans happy with an official that blew his whistle for a gust of wind to complete a strange afternoon. City secured a draw that day with Adrian Patulea's equaliser, Janos Kovacs heading wide in the final minute.
Currently standing at the longest reigning club to have the "GloryHunter" follow them, Brentford must be one of the favourites for promotion, especially given their general form since Andy Scott took over last season.
