City's next game was at the other game of the country, away at Torquay United. City's record at Plainmoor is very poor in recent times, this was no different. The Imps were second best by a long way, hardly surprising in a season where we only won twice on the road. Infact, not scoring wasn't exactly a surprise to the City fans, although the Gulls did score two of their own to condemn the Imps to a defeat.
Next up was a difficult home game against Cheltenham Town. The Cheltenham team contained John Finnigan, a man who had been with the Imps until just six days earlier. It was a side that was heading for promotion, eventually securing it with a Playoff Final win over Rushden and Diamonds at the Millennium Stadium. City didn't exactly do well, managing just two shots compared to thirteen from the visitors, one of which entered the net. Julian Alsop headed in at the back post to give the promotion chasers the victory. That was now 206 minutes without a goal for City.
Four days later and Southend United were at Sincil Bank. City actually had more shots than their visitors but the Shrimps scored in the 7th minute thanks to Clark, he easily beat City's offside trap. Southend didn't score again in the game, that despite Darren Horrigan coming on for Alan Marriott at half time, it would be Horrigan's only ever appearance for the first team. Make that 296 minutes without a goal, now officially a drought.
League leaders Plymouth Argyle were the next visitors to Sincil Bank. The Pilgrims would eventually win promotion as the Champions of the division, although this game saw their near 1000 strong visiting support watch their side struggle to beat City. It looked as though the game was heading to a goalless draw before Stonebridge sent a good effort around Marriott to send Plymouth to within one victory of promotion. 386 minutes.
Lincoln City's game against York City will be most remembered for Grant Brown breaking the all time record appearance for the Imps. Brown was a constant rock for the Imps but would be released just weeks later due to the financial crisis at Sincil Bank. Two first half goals from Bullock and Nogan gave the Minstermen the victory and it was now 476 minutes without a goal for the Imps, surely it would end soon.
That run ended with an away trip to Exeter City, although the 28th minute had seen Roscoe give Exeter the lead. That came just four minutes after the Imps fans had done the Dambusters as the first team reached 500 minutes without a first team goal....they would only have to wait for another 60. Kingsley Black had scored a few decent free kicks during the season and he slotted another one into the net with 6 minutes to go, ending a run of 560 minutes without a goal.
