The Shots controlled the opening periods but only had a weak effort from Scott Davies to show for their early efforts. City gradually came into the game and had two great chances to go 1-0 up within thirty seconds of each other. The first saw Brown released on the left and he burst into the box, only to see Nikki Bull provide an excellent save to give a corner. The resulting corner found Kovacs and his goalbound header was again kept out by the excellent Shots keeper.
The hosts launched a counter attack from this corner and it appeared as though they would break forward, only for Andy Sandell to blaze well over. Stefan Oakes and his newly adopted shoot-on-site attitude saw him tamely shoot into Bull's arms from distance.
Scott Kerr typically hit several corners straight at the first defender, although Lee Beevers did almost pounce on one as he almost tapped in. N'Guessan chipped the ball onto the roof of the next before a rare Aldershot breakaway brought the game's first goal. Burch denied Morgan and conceded a corner, the ball floated in and Andy Sandell tapped in. However, Rob Burch had been injured in the build up and there was some confusion as to whether the goal would have been allowed...it was.
Oakes hit a free kick straight at Bull in the final action of the first half and the Imps, despite dominating, found themselves behind.
Brown almost equalised immediately in the second half as Chris Blackburn blocked his goalbound effort. It wasn't long before Jackson made his first change of the game as he replaced John-Lewis with Ben Wright. Oakes and N'Guessan both wasted efforts than followed from a free kick.
Much like the first half, City were having the majority of possession but were unable to do anything with it, this rather unsurprisingly cost City as Scott Davies quickly doubled the host's advantage. He pounced on a cross to volley thunderously past Burch in yet another stunning goal scored against City this season.
Kovacs was booked ahead before N'Guessan shot straight at Bull. Graham replaced Frecklington for City and he was involved when three City players missed easy chances within five seconds. The ball found it's way to three players and despite all having the goal within mere feet, they managed to miss the target completely.
The Imps remain 13th in the table.
