Graham to lead the line against the Shots?
By Mr E. Nigma
November 25 2008
David Graham could finally be given his chance to impress as he is on the verge of his first start for the Imps. Graham has largely made cameo appearances so far this season and it has lead to frustrations from fans who are sick of the club's other so called "strikers" missing chance after golden chance...but he'll have a difficult task ahead of him as the Imps travel to Aldershot.

It's a little known fact amongst the newer generation of City fans that Lincoln City were Aldershot's last ever opponents before they went bust. Now that Aldershot Town FC are enjoying their first ever season in the Football League, it is a good chance for the Imps to test themselves against new opposition...it has certainly worked in recent years as the Imps have good records against other Conference Champions, winning 6 in 7 against Barnet and 3 in 4 against Accrington.

One man certainly looking to make an impact will be David Graham. Graham has a good, proven scoring record at higher levels than League Two, that makes Peter Jackson's decision to only given him his brief appearances even more puzzling. There have alledgely been off the field issues that needed resolving and those issues have hopefully sorted themselves out as the Scot looks to finally set about showing the City faithful what he could do.

Graham got his longest run out yet in Saturday's game against Shrewsbury, setting up several chances for himself and team-mates, coming ever so close to scoring his first goal in the red and white. One worry could be that many strikers in City's history have shown that they can look good when coming off of the bench, but rarely perform when they start....a certain Mr Yeo comes to mind.

It will certainly be interesting to see if David does live up to Saturday's hope that he has created....a rare glimmer in a November that has seen a Playoff dream fade, an FA Cup exit and yet more Jackson hype.

One player who will certainly have to be on his toes is Janos Kovacs. The Hungarian has a habit of giving away numerous fouls and another booking will result in his sitting out the next game.

City will go into the game with no new injury worries, meaning that only Adrian Patulea is likely to miss out due to an injury sustained two weeks ago. With that, it is likely that the first team squad will be the same that end against Shrewsbury, meaning Rob Burch continuing in between the sticks with Paul Green, Lee Beevers, Janos Kovacs and the human-punchbag (Danny Hone) in defence.

Stefan amazingly didn't get injured again against Shrewsbury, meaning he should still be available for selection along with Scott Kerr and Lee Frecklington playing behind a front three of Ben Wright, Dany N'Guessan and the aforementioned Graham.

However, the Imps have a tough opponent in Aldershot Town FC, a side that includes former Imps, Junior Mendes. Mendes joined City in 2007 on loan from Notts County and continued his reputation of being a promotion-crusher. City were the fourth side that he joined that had a great season, only for it to fall apart at the end when the Playoffs came around. He had previously helped Mansfield, Northampton and Grimsby to unsuccessful Playoff campaigns. He has scored in exactly 1/3 of his games for Aldershot.

However, Aldershot's best player is Nikki Bull. The goalkeeper was voted as the Blue Square Premier Player of the Season last year and he will compete in his 299th game for Aldershot if selected.

The Shots have made a reasonable start to League life, although they have been handing victories out to sides on a regular basis. They lost eight away games on the trot until last week's 3-0 victory at Rotherham in the FA, but their home record is excellent and they are currently undefeated in the League and they showed their fighting spirit against Bury, coming from 3-0 down to draw 3-3.

Possibly the only thing we disagree on Nathan, but what we'd give for an in-form Yeooooo at his peak now?

The best natural finisher we had at this club, since Derek Bell!

Graham played well against Shrews, just the chance he got, he wasted, along with a few other players!
