Reaction to the ever frustrating Darlington game
By Nathan Jackson
November 15 2008
It's been a frustrating few weeks to say the least and it was all summed up at Darlington. Ever since we looked free-scoring against Chesterfield a month ago, we have barely looked like scoring and have wasted chance after chance. It is because of this that I have come to the conclusion that we won't be going anywhere without a new striker.

I remember at the beginning of this month that everyone was raving about Jackson's winning record since coming to Sincil Bank, interesting that the people stating it were turning a blind eye to the "games lost" column (which was near enough identical to the "games won" column, and to be honest, we always look like a side that will lose more games than we win, and today summed that up.

We had no creativity in the starting line up and it was only when Kevin Gall went off that we started looking decent. I don't know when Jacko sees in Gall, I really don't. He can't score, can barely pass to his own players and has done nothing in his loan spell to suggest why he keeps getting picked. I am truly at a loss, but then again he's not the only striker who wastes whatever chances he gets this days, infact, every striker is falling into that category at the moment.

It's been a problem that we've had in recent weeks and since Adrian seems to have forgotten how to connect properly with a ball when he's two yards out from goal, our goals have certainly dried up. If we don't invest in a new striker (preferably one that can actually score) in January then we are not going to go anywhere.

One thing that's worrying me is that with Ben Wright. He has been out of regular first team action for so long that he will no longer bury chances he would have put away last season. I hope the trend doesn't continue but he should have had at least two today.

There are players who play well whenever they come on and then are constantly ignored, having to play behind wasters such as Kevin Gall. I present Aaron Brown for example. He has played well in every game I've seen him in and yet he has players like Gall in front of him. I know if I was in the same situation then I'd be pretty annoyed.

As for the game itself, I still don't know how we didn't take anything out of the game, especially after Darlington's best player was sent off. We waste chance after chance and we deserved a point at the very minimum. Darlington scored with pretty much their only realistic chances, but we really should be aiming to be a lot like Darlington. When I say that I don't mean the "stomp of them" part of Darlington, but the Darlington that can score when they haven't played well and have a team rather than a group of individuals.

Oh well, at least we now get the distraction of the FA Cup replay before next week's difficult home game against Shrewsbury.

He couldn't do anything about either of Darlington's goals, but he made some excellent saves to prevent Darlington from increasing their lead.

2 - Paul Green

Average at best. Balls into the box were very poor.

Effort is unquestionable but quick word of advice Lee. If you're going to pass the ball, pass it to the players in the same colour shirt as you.

Please just go! I'm being awfully generous with that 2.

Only six more weeks.

Seriously, beat the first defender at set-pieces.

Very, very quiet game from Dany.

16 - Danny Hone

Arguably our best player at the moment, dependable at the back when he's not getting stood on.

19 - Shane Clarke

Fair play to the lad, no complaints whatsoever about him. Worked hard, good passing success rate, all looks good.

23 - Adrian Patulea

Continutes to miss absolute sitters and is starting to cost us points. Maybe the honey-moon period is over?

Surely he should be starting games by now? We were considerably better after he came on the pitch and chaged the game.

Got into a lot of dangerous positions and should have scored. As I mention in the main article, he needs to start games and consider Adrian is no longer performing, he deserves a chance.

Didn't really have a chance to do a lot.
